I saw it last night and loved it. This morning I visited the website to get some more information on the actors. I found a section on the daemons, including a quiz that selects one for you. Here’s mine (be patient, loading takes a moment): http://www.goldencompassmovie.com/?826661
Now I have to read the books.

I hope you love the book; so much more to the story then what they showed in the movie. I was very disappointed in the movie, moved way too fast and ended too early. Movie effects were good but I think the movie could have been an hour longer, for sure.

So often the film version of a book is a pale imitation of the original. I’m looking forward to the novels.

Why silly, Charlie?
I’ve now read the book, and its plot makes more sense. The movie was better paced, though. I also felt the character interactions in the film were better than in the book, more fleshed out, more real Perhaps that’s just the difference between reading something and seeing it.
I think they ended it early deliberately, so as not to have irate parents and crying kids writing them hate mail.
As for the movie being too short–I could listen to Ian McKellen read the phone book for an hour and feel it was time well spent. And more time on Serafina and Farder Coram would have been good too.

Well, I finished the trilogy. Thanks Mt Pleasant for encouraging me to go get it! The books were fun.
